Poem: National Thesaurus Day

I wake up to the dulcet chanting of birds
and quivering of tree branches.
The Sun hidden under rip-roaring clouds.
I go to the terrace singing 'Here comes the Sun'
and leave rice for the birds to feed on.
Then I go to my desk, a poem already stowed
in my mind. I try to embellish it by making use
of Roget's Thesaurus:-

The clouds stole the Sun
and cried lines of winter rain--
tempestuous, swift, torrential, heavy,
violent, rapid, soaking, pattering,
thrumming, numbing, freezing,
nippy, chilly, bitterly cold.
All the birds went in their nests
and the neighbors, all in their homes.

1. Write a SOUND POEM which includes AT LEAST ONE from EACH of the FIVE HEARING CATEGORY SELECTIONS below: (reference the hearing words you chose in your post).

  • bellow; clink; drone; jingle; quiver;

  • dulcet: honeyed; poetic; sonorous; tonal;
  • blabber; cackle; dribble; gurgle; seethe;
  • beseech; chant; drawl; embellish; intone

Feel free to dip deeper into your chosen words by elaborating further from the Thesaurus with synonyms and antonyms

AND/OR

2. Simply write about the Thesaurus – what it means to you; describe it, have fun with it. Let the synonyms flow, or antagonise with antonyms.

I’ve done both.
