Poem: Spring and Summer

Summer is only sleeping
but Spring wakes him awake
with her songs of love;
the chorus of birds in the morning,
the buzzing of bees over the flowers,
the sounds of tinkling streams,
wind rustling in the tress
and the rain pattering in the streets.
And when sweet Spring looks around herself,
she sees Summer standing nearby,
strong and handsome with a tanned face.

For NAPOWRIMO 2022. This is an old poem of mine, I am posting it with little modifications. If I get the time maybe I’ll write one more poem based on the prompt for today.

First Day at The Gym

He was a shy boy, almost 14 and skinny. His friends often made fun of his body in school, so he decided to join a gym, determined to put on some muscle weight that summer.

On his first day at the gym, when the trainers took a look at him, they asked, “What’s up with your posture, kid. Why your shoulders are uneven like that?”. He knew they’d ask this, his friends all make fun of the posture thing too. It’s something he has explained to his friends countless times but that didn’t stop them from calling him names and making fun of him. He worked up his nerve to explain a bunch of strangers the cause of his uneven shoulders or as his parents like to put it, “The story of the day he was born”. “Yeah, the thing is, when I was born my food pipe and wind pipe were intermingled. So, doctors had to perform a surgery to remedy the situation. For the surgery, they made a large incision beneath my right shoulder and for more than 2 months the shoulder had to be kept at a higher position than the other which ruined my posture.” One of the trainers spoke, “The condition is common and there are exercises I can teach you which’ll help restore your posture.” He didn’t know it could be restored. He was happy, he said, “Thank you, sir.”

That night before going to bed he removed his t-shirt and looked at himself in the mirror. He stood there, lopsided posture, skinny figure and the scar visible: looking like a horrible stitch mark stretching from his lower part of the right shoulder to his chest. He was sad, his body looked disgusting but he was hopeful. He said to himself, “It’s nothing some exercises and a plastic surgery can’t fix.”

Today Maureen prompts us to write a prose poem: A story about the body. Inspired by Robert Hass’s remarkable prose poem, A Story About the Body”.

I also have a good news to share today: I am the featured participant of the day at NaPoWriMo because of my poem “Forever Might Be Short” I was surprised and very happy when I came to know that.

Forever Might Be Short

Forever might be short
short like my poems
which are forever
preserved
between the pages
of my notebook.

Forever might be short
short like the spring rain
that drenches the flowers
and creates a scent
which is remembered forever.

Forever might be short
short like the grass
which grows and grows
until forever.

Forever might be short
short like an affair
that first love stare
which seems like forever.

This year I’ve decided to take part in NAPOWRIMO. This is my submission to the Early-Bird Prompt.
