I imagine a turtle
drawing its limbs
inside its smooth shell
in fear, is it like that?
When we hide our senses
inside our insecurities–
smooth on the surface
but a beautiful mess underneath?

Turtles are so self-contained, Jay, but also withdraw when in danger, into their beautiful shells. I love how you sum up our similarities and turn the turtle upside down in the lines:
‘When we hide our senses
inside our insecurities–
smooth on the surface
but a beautiful mess underneath’.
